When I was younger, I loved Valentine’s Day … it brought a sense or possibility of romance, sweet surprises, at least for that one day. At the other end of the spectrum – it could bring disappointment. Sorry, folks, not all men are romantics.

Ladies, admit it … didn’t we all dream of the perfect guy? The one that brought us flowers and not just on a special day, the one that put surprise notes in our lunches or called us in the middle of the day simply because he was thinking of you. The one that gave you just the right gift, planned the vacation details or whispered sweet nothings. I know I did.

While my husband doesn’t have a romantic bone in his body, he gives me something better … he gives me support for all my endeavours, whether it is a night course, a girls weekend away, or a business venture, he would say yes, go ahead; he believes in me, in my ability, in my attempts to achieve whatever I set out to do (although sometimes I wish he would just make the decision for me instead – it would have been easier); he listens to and centres me, every time I feel low or have a negative reaction to something, he can always help me see the other side and calm my emotions (albeit grudgingly sometimes). This is more AWESOME than flowers, chocolates or jewelry. This is more AWESOME than something that will wilt, melt or be misplaced. This lasts a life time.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
